Whole unprocessed foods is the best rule of thumb to follow for nutrition. The second best rule: color variety. If there are a variety of colors to your plate there are nutrient varieties as well. Almost every vitamin and mineral the human body needs can be found in complete whole foods. Consider everything you put into your mouth a type of fuel and notice if it is clean high efficiency fuel or if you feel tired, swollen, grumpy, foggy headed, manic, depressed, sore, or even sick after consumption. Are you eating processed foods? Foods that come from the center isles instead of the outer perimeter of the grocery store? Have you ever tried shopping at a local farmers market or subscribing to a CSA program for the best in what your community has to offer?
